UNION NEGOTIATES HALT TO MANAGEMENT’S SIX DAY SIX HOUR PSE SCHEDULE
Updated On: Feb 10, 2018
Last month management at the NY/ISC, had made the decision to change the schedule of all PSE employees at the NY/ISC to a 6/6 schedule (six hours per day/six days per week). The change was to be effective on February 17, 2018. Notification of the potential change was not given to the Union until January 24, 2018. After receiving notification Queens Area Local, APWU President Ron Suslak immediately scheduled a meeting with Plant Manager Charles Conti to discuss the draconian change in PSE work hours. President Suslak expressed his outrage at the six hour, six day a week work schedule. He expressed his concern that the change in work schedule might severely impact the lives of our PSE members in dealing with such things as child care, college schedules and in some cases, even second job responsibilities. Unfortunately at that time, management would not commit to back off of the planned 6/6 PSE schedule change. Subsequent meetings were also held with Executive Vice President Ralph DeVito and Plant Manager Conti to no avail. On Monday, February 5, 2018, President Suslak again met with Plant Manager Conti in another effort to negotiate a stop to the implementation of the 6/6 schedule. President Suslak once again stressed the fact that the new PSE schedule would not only severely impact the lives of our PSE employees but most certainly could be an impediment to productivity and probably would increase the PSE turnover rate. After much discussion and to his credit, Plant manager Conti committed to Queens Area Local, APWU President Ron Suslak, to cancel the implementation of the 6/6 PSE schedule for current NY/ISC PSE employees.
